Jackson & Blanc was awarded the HVAC and plumbing contract for the modernization of the UCSD Thornton Medical Center central plant facility. The project consisted of installation of new chillers totaling 1100 tons, new steam boiler systems, new cooling towers, medical air and vacuum systems, DDC upgrades, and all supporting piping systems.
The project was completed in phases working closely with DPR construction to ensure no loss of services throughout the project duration. Specific challenges included working within central plant serving an operational hospital facility, limited staging area, and complex system tie-ins.
Close coordination also took place to ensure all the required OSHPD inspection took place in a timely fashion to keep the project on schedule and not affect other trades.
